Weight Loss Motivation – How Do You Stay Motivated On A Low Carbs Diet?
Filed under Low Carb FAQs, Low Carb Talk
Weight loss motivation is key to success. This post has one sole purpose – to gather inspirational thoughts and feedback from others who are eating low carbs. Low carbs diets are kind of funny, becase on one hand, you open yourself up to a brand new world of eating different foods that you otherwise probably wouldn’t eat. It really is fun. But on the other hand, unless you have a ton of creative spark, it’s all too easy to get distracted and eat the same thing all the time, which ultimately and unfortunately leads to low carbs burnout.
Then the weight comes back, as usual.
Be honest, unless this is your first rodeo, you know that as soon as you give up on the diet, it’s only a matter of weeks or months before you pack the weight back on. It sucks. But that’s why having a community of support really helps maintain your weight loss motivation.
Why?
Well, alone, we’re just ourselves. Just one person. But together, we’re a gangly mass of smart minds who can think collectively and encourage each other to continue on. Isn’t it a great feeling when your pants are looser, or your shirt doesn’t fit as snug? Why give that up? Is junk food really that important? Honestly, sometimes it is! Depending on your lifestyle, you very well may choose sugar over a healthier life. Sad, right?
It doesn’t have to be that way though. You absolutely need encouragement, because without it, your chances of making it through is rather slim. It can be done on a solo mission, but it’s tough. The more times you start hearing “Wow, are you losing weight?”, the more motivated you should become. When people actually notice it, it means you’re doing everything right, so just keep riding the wave! It’s not that hard to maintain your diet motivation!
Anyway, these were just some random thoughts I had before I hit the sack tonight. I’ve had some pretty strong cravings the past few days, and I could probably use a bit of motivation myself. I would nearly kill for jelly doughnut, but I know that I have to continue on my path to normal weight-hood.
All the best, and please share your thoughts below

I think this is an excellent article on how to lose the all natural way. Which is what people should do to lose weight, instead of pumping the body full of diet pills that never work. They try one it don’t work so they go buy another and another diet pill. Newsflash taking a pill will not make you lose weight. Great informative article on how to lose weight the right way. Thanks!

Dieters should take it an imperative responsibility on their own part that agreeing with a diet consultant or medicine means that you have showed determination over things suggested by the counselor. Only then things will work in real sense.

Motivation is one of the most important factors which determines how successful we are at what we do. It is the driving force that gives us the will to accomplish tasks and eventually succeed at reaching an ultimate goal. It is most important for everything not only for weight loss but for other thing also, even if you are a drug addict and you want to leave this bad habit you need motivation. Joinung any Drug Addiction Treatment cant help you if you dont have motivation towards your goal.

Diet success entails making real lifestyle changes, and that doesn’t happen overnight. You have a better chance at keeping the weight off if you lose it slowly. People who are starving get irritable and have a higher failure rate.
Sports Nutrition on Wed, 24th Mar 2010 10:55 am
i agree with the above comment, for sustained weight loss you need to stick to a new healthy regime otherwise the temptation to go back to a bad habit will be all too easy

To stay motivated you need to stick to the schedule for both food intake with low carb along with the exercise schedule. Better one stop thinking about the hunger and instead think about the excessive fat, so he/she’ll be automatically get motivation from inside.
Smart Lipo on Thu, 8th Apr 2010 3:35 am
Motivation is something which is needed for us to keep us working all the time and keep ourselves energetic for working all the time. Low carb diets are based on the principles that consuming carbs and simple sugar leads to gains in weight. Low carb diets go against the principles of traditional diets which focus on calorie counting and focus instead on carbs and sugar.

Most people forget that many people in the world earn so that they can get two meals a day, after this neglecting food, bad eating habits, lack of exercise etc. become ‘commonplace’ for them. It’s a good reminder you have sent with this post. Preserve what we already have by taking the right measures.
Smart Lipo on Thu, 15th Apr 2010 4:28 am
This sounds like prevention is better than care. Instead of taking measures which can give us results after many methods its better to maintain our weight and body in a balanced proportion, always take the diet which will not increase fat in our body.

I’ve gone from 240lb to 160lb just by changing my diet and making it a point to do a little more physical activity every day until I was able to fully work out again. I’ve stayed this weight for 2 years now… I think the key was not to be so extreme and to steadily work toward small goals.

You really need to focus more on burning the fat and not on how good you look. By just trying to get a nice looking body without considering how to help your body burn fat and keep it off you are really wasting your time. The weight will return even faster.

I think the best way to stay motivated when on a low carb diet is to have a cheat day where you indulge in any carbohydrate food you want. Or, at the very least, allow yourself one meal to do so. It’s something you can look forward to and enjoy without hampering your progress.

I’ve been trying the Slimming World diet where you get Green days and Red days. One is a carb heavy day, the other is a protein heavy day, but you can never mix the two. Generally, you can get away with eating more on either day and still lose weight!

Really guys, low carbohydrates diets is better for health because of the reason, increase your weight. But in place you can use much proteins in diet like milk.

I agree with info above, if we are alone in doing so the possibility of successful diet programs are smaller, but if there are friends who have same goal then the success rate is higher. Therefore should be in doing diet we should follow a diet program that is held by a group and there was a trainer in it.

Hello Everyone, I’ve been putting together some information on my Top Ten Supplements that will help aid in weight loss. I personally used everyone of these supplements before and formulated my own list of what I beleive are the best. I’ve also come to this conclusion from seeing the results of my customer who’ve taken these supplements and hearing what they had to say about them. I’m not trying to sell or push a certain supplement and would love to hear more feed back on this subject or also hear about a different supplements and how it worked for you.
1. Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA)
Alpha lipoic acid, often referred to as ‘the universal antioxidant,” is a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory found naturally inside of the energy producing portion of the cell known as the mitochondria. Alpha lipoic acid enhances our ability to metabolize food into energy. ALA is a unique antioxidant because it is both fat and water soluble. This means it can go to all parts of the cell, including the lipid (fat) portions such as the cell plasma membrane, as well as the interior of the cell (known as the cytoplasm) where water soluble chemicals reside.
2. DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol)
DMAE is a naturally occurring nutritional substance with powerful anti-inflammatory properties; it is found in fish including wild Alaskan salmon, anchovies and sardines. DMAE is important in the production of neurotransmitters, which are essential in the communication from one nerve to another and between nerves and muscles. Taking DMAE as a supplement will not only improve your cognitive function by improving memory and problem-solving ability, it will help increase skin firmness and muscle tone — important for anyone on a weight loss or anti-aging program.
3. Glutamine
Glutamine is the body’s most abundant amino acid. It plays an important role in keeping the muscles functioning properly and helps reduce muscle deterioration. Glutamine literally drives muscle-building nitrogen into the muscle cell where it is synthesized for growth. It is also converted into glucose when the body needs more energy. When the body is in a highly inflammatory state, it breaks down our muscle tissue to get the extra glutamine needed, resulting in muscle mass loss.
4. Carnitine
Carnitine and its derivative, acetyl L-carnitine, are two of the most important nutrients for weight loss. Carnitine is critical for energy formation and an active metabolism. Carnitine transports the fatty acids from our blood into the cell for this energy production. Thus, for carnitine to have optimum effect, we must have adequate essential fatty acids, such as omega 3′s, present in the diet.
5. Acetyl L-carnitine
Acetyl L-carnitine acts as an antioxidant, a natural anti-inflammatory that enhances the affects of the other antioxidant systems within the body. These anti-inflammatory properties protect the cell plasma membrane (the cell’s first line of defense) and prevent the conversion of arachidonic acid into pro-inflammatory chemicals. Although exercise will naturally increase our levels of acetyl L-carnitine, if we are obese, over thirty or have other health problems, it will not raise them to therapeutic levels, therefore supplementation is necessary.
6. Coenzyme Q – 10
Coenzyme Q-10, also called ubiquinone, is a powerful antioxidant/anti-inflammatory with many benefits for treating and preventing obesity. It acts similarly to acetyl L-carnitine in that it assists in energy production within the mitochondria. CoQ10 enhances the metabolism, giving us greater energy and endurance, a greater ability to lose body fat, preventing the energy decline seen in aging cells. CoQ10 also maximizes the burning of foods for fuel, helping to normalize fats in our blood.
7. Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)
Conjugated linoleic acid is a fatty acid found in many of the foods we eat. At one time, beef and lamb were exceptional sources; however when their diet was changed from grass to grain, levels of CLA dramatically decreased in the meat and dairy products. CLA has powerful antioxidant/anti-inflammatory activity. It decreases body fat, especially in the area of the abdomen and helps block the absorption of fat and sugar into fat cells (adipocytes). It also helps the insulin receptors remain intact, thus increasing insulin sensitivity.
8. Chromium
Because Chromium is an essential nutrient for normal sugar and fat metabolism, it is critical in our effort to control and reduce excess body fat. Chromium supplementation effectively lowers blood sugar and insulin levels and can also increase levels of the ‘good’ HDL cholesterol. This lowers total cholesterol and triglycerides, thus playing a key role in regulating appetite, reducing sugar cravings, and lowering body fat.
9. Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA)
Gamma linolenic acid is an important omega-6 essential fatty acid. The average American diet causes a deficiency of GLA because of the large amounts of trans fatty acids, sugar, red meats and dairy products. The body rapidly converts GLA into dihomo-gamma-linoleic acid, the precursor of prostaglandin E1, a powerful anti-inflammatory hormone-like compound that helps to regulate inflammation, blood pressure, and many other bodily processes.
10. Maitake Mushroom Extract
Studies show that maitake mushroom extract enhances insulin sensitivity for controlling blood sugar levels and may serve as a safe and reliable weight loss supplement — even without additional behavior modifications, such as decreased caloric intake and increased exercise. It is established as a powerful tool in preventing a dangerous quartet of metabolic imbalances that increase our risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes called Metabolic Syndrome. Metabolic Syndrome consists of high blood pressure, elevated levels of insulin, excess weight (especially around the abdomen), and dyslipidemialow, or low levels of HDL (good) cholesterol, high levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol, and high levels of triglycerides.
